After suffering for a while, you were probably quite relieved to get an appointment at the hospital for an X-ray or an MRI scan feeling at least then, you would get some answers about the cause of your pain. But that doesn't always happen.
One of the hardest things to hear when you have been in pain for a while is that the scan/Xray hasn't shown anything. OK, it's a huge relief to know that you don't have something seriously wrong with you but once that has worn off ..what now? You are still in pain and no closer to knowing why. It can feel like a frustrating anti-climax. You may start to worry that doctors, colleagues or family don't really believe that you are in pain and that you are exaggerating your symptoms. You don't know which way to turn.
So just for a moment, look at your life..
Are you angry about a situation or with a person/people?
Are you stuck in a relationship or job that is frustrating you and stifling you?
Are you anxious or afraid about the future, your family or your home life?
Have you been under strain or pressure for a while and just try to keep coping?
All of these emotions cause changes in our bodies from disturbance of hormone balance, muscle tension, digestive issues, poor sleep, inability to think clearly and poor diet/lifestyle habits such as over-eating/drinking. And these things can lead to pain.
Over the past years, I have treated many clients whose pain was very much a physical thing, but it couldn't be resolved by looking only at their body. Their pain stopped them from performing daily tasks, it interfered with their job and it made life very difficult but it was deeper than their muscles and ligaments. Their body might be stiff and sore, but unless the broader issues of their life were brought to the surface, the physical work I was doing wouldn't be enough.
Amatsu is a beautiful therapy because it allows me to make connections between our emotions and our body. It gives me the right tools and questions to ask to get to the true heart of your problem. And if we work together and are both committed to getting to the true reason that you are in pain (whether that has a root in your emotions or not), we have a much better chance to get you back into a life that you love again.

P.S. If you would like to hear more on this topic (that I find endlessly fascinating!), I will be doing a talk about the connections between our emotions and our bodies at the Goose Green Clinic Open Day on Saturday 16 May 2015. Time is TBC but you can keep up to date with me on my Facebook page where I will post details as soon as they are available.
