Yoga used to be weird
When I was a teenager, I would sometimes get home from school and hear ‘1-2-3-4…and 5’ coming from the living room. If I had a friend with me, I’d be shrivelling up with embarrassment, as I knew that I’d find my mum (and sometimes, my dad!) standing, folded forward at the waist, or lying on the floor, following a Lynne Marshall yoga record.
Nobody else’s mum did this, but now I'm grateful that I grew up in a house where the norm was not the only way. We weren't an alternative family - in most ways, we were pretty conventional - but my mum always had an eye and and an ear for wisdom - homeopathy, real food and herbal remedies were woven through my otherwise quite normal 80's upbringing.
I think energy work will be like this. I think that it will start to weave its way gently back into our lives.
The principles are, of course, ancient, like yoga. But over the past centuries, we have moved further and further away from what sustains us. We have believed it to be sophisticated and have seen our industrial world as superior to that of our ancestors or indigenous populations. But we are realising the error of our ways, perhaps?
Things like homeopathy, plant medicine and sound healing are all returning in a great wave as we realise how disconnected many people feel. Speed, convenience and status have distorted so much, that many of us are feeling a deep longing for more meaning, depth, truth and nourishment. And I know that working with nature and with our energy brings more pleasure, joy and peace than anything that we can buy.
