Our Inner Dream Team

3 minute read

Navigating this life is not easy. Trying to figure out our relationships, our purpose, our finances, our work, who we are and who we want to become..phew! We can be left feeling overwhelmed, drained, exhausted just by the very process of trying to figure everything out and run a day-to-day life in the meantime. We can wish that someone, anyone, could come along and just TELL us what we should do in a certain circumstance, give us the answers and help to take the burden and turmoil away from our decision-making.

Investing in experts has been something I have done since I trained as a life coach back in 2007. At each stage of my life journey, I have sought to find, and - commit to - my ‘dream team’, the people who are best equipped to support that stage of my journey. These have included personal trainers, homeopaths, life coaches, shamans, acupuncturists, healers, teachers, nutritional therapists, yoga teachers, marketing experts, counsellors, elders, storytellers, graphic designers, energy workers.. quite a mix!

More recently, I’ve been experimenting with working with my own inner dream team! This has involved tapping into three aspects of my personality - my Inner Masculine with his courage, resilience, bravery and direction, my Inner Feminine with her softness, creativity and sensuality and my Inner Child with her wonder, curiosity and playfulness.

Through this I have discovered so much!

I have realised that over the past few months, I have been neglecting my Inner Masculine - so while I have had lots of wonderful ideas and visions (feminine trait), I had been avoiding actually scheduling time (masculine trait) to make them happen. I was also being very playful with my son, but not bringing that inner child playfulness to other relationships.

I was so inspired by this, that my latest Soul Circle involved taking the group on a visualisation journey to meet these three aspects of themselves.

I invited the group (and you can try this too) to think about the areas of their lives where they might need the qualities that each of these three aspects might be useful.

Where do you need strength and boldness right now?

Where do you need to soften and flow?

Where do you need to lighten up and see joy?

It was so powerful! Participants laughed, cried and most importantly took away valuable learning to apply to their own lives.

Having these characters as a starting point can be so useful! You can visualise them, name them, create an inner location for them. You can remember to call upon one of them when needed. And of course, they are all YOU. How amazing is that?

Could you give yourself some time this week, to tap into these aspects of yourself?

I recommend a quiet room, at least 30 minutes and a journal. Conjure up these characters who are 100% ON YOUR SIDE. (If your inner critic or any wounded element of yourself pops up, thank them and offer them space at a different time. This is important team-building time!)
